The latest movie news for Gerard Butler may have Black Freighter fans disappointed. Gerard Butler has done the voice for the Sea Captain in The Black Freighter. The mariner survives an attack from the dreaded pirates of the Black Freighter, he gets home to warn them but at what cost?
The 30 minute animated adaptation from Zack Snyder is a gory comic within the Watchmen story. Now why would fans be disappointed with Gerard Butler and Zack Snyder? Well everyone loves a back-story on their favorite characters but I doubt that 30 minutes will be enough for fans.
My question to people who have seen Watchmen, do you think that Gerard Butler should have had a role in the action movie release? Since the movie of 300, Zack Snyder has been chummy with Gerard Butler and well Watchmen is another action movie. The movie rumor is that if there was a place for Butler that he would be in the film.
Just wanted to spend some time this moment getting your views on Gerard Butler. My husband and I were discussing Gerard Butler as an actor this morning and both agree that he is one of our favorites. I don’t know about a role in Watchmen though.
I think that the casting director did a great job with Watchman and I don’t think I could see Gerard Butler putting on a superhero costume. At least not one for a live action movie, voice over character maybe.
I don’t think GB had the time or inclination to do Watchmen. He seems to want to do different genres and the movies that he has made since 300 and continues to make proves that, I think. He also has his own production company now and just finished Law Abiding Citizen filming with Jamie Foxx.
Or perhaps he didn’t like the anti-super hero story in Watchmen, which the box office has shown most folks didn’t. Whatever the reason he seems to be making some great choices, and begins filming another romantic comedy with Jen Aniston before producing and starring in the movie about the life of Robert Burns. Busy guy, great actor, and handsome as all get out.
I’m a fan of Gerard Butler, too. Wouldn’t it have been smashing if Tales of the Black Freighter had been filmed starring him instead of being a cartoon voiced by him? That said, it is superb for what it is. I read that Warner Brothers went to cartoon because the cost of live action would have been prohibitive.
As for the Watchmen superheroes, some said Snyder wanted him to play the Comedian but he had made other commitments. Perhaps he and Snyder will work together again on something else. Personally,
I’m glad he didn’t play that one.
I’ll always be at a Butler movie no matter who his character is. Let’s hope he continues his onscreen magic and has a long, long career.
I am a huge fan of Zack and Gerry Butler. I don’t see how Gerry could have been in Watchmen. I think his narration is great on the Black Freighter special feature though.
I too have been wondering about Gerry’s career and what new and exciting
roles he might be anticipating. From what I know, he only has 2 in the can and is starting a project with Jennifer Aniston in June. I would have bet money against Gerry Butler ever doing a project with Aniston - I’m not hopeful.

I think GB is a great actor and is underrated! Zack originally offered Gerard the Comedian role in Wathcman - at least that is the rumor. He offered it to him during 300 before the movie was a hit. He obviously loves working with him and knows his talent. But GB has said he does not want to be coined an Action Star so he declined.
I think conflicting schedules were the main reason GB wasn’t in Watchmen. Zack wanted him in it, but he had prior commitments or something. If GB did star in Watchmen, I wonder if it would’ve made a big difference in that movie’s box office numbers? Then again, if he did star in it, his presence might’ve overpowered everyone else’s. That’s just what I think.
