A night of comedic war movies and Bollywood

Published by cmaher at 1:24 pm under movie news Edit This

Colin Firth in The Last Legion
It’s another Sunday night of movies. What did MJ and I serve up to our guests as we all settled in for munchie and movie night? A couple of us missed Tropic Thunder in the theater so we wanted to make sure that we dined on this big plate of comedy.

The girls wanted to catch up on older Bruce Willis movies so we made sure that we rented the 2003 Tears of the sun. Tears of the sun wasn’t enough action, blood, and gore for the guys so we also rented 2007 The Last Legion staring Colin Firth.

Tropic Thunder Plot Summary
A group of self-absorbed actors set out to make the most expensive war film. But after ballooning costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they encounter real bad guys in 2008 Tropic Thunder.

Tropic Thunder staring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Jay Baruchel, and Nick Nolte was as funny as I thought the film was going to be. With Ben Stiller being the Director and co-producer, my anticipation going into the film was that Ben Stiller was going to be a film hound and try to steal all the scenes.

Ben Stiller as a film hound was not the case at all. As the Director of Tropic Thunder he allowed Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Jay Baruchel, and Nick Nolte to not only have their own spotlight throughout the film but let their personality shine through.

The one actor that stole the show was Tom Cruise. Ben Stiller really let him loose as Les Grossman. I’ve always seen Tom Cruise in serious roles and it was good to watch him let lose and take a shot at looking like an idiot.

If you rent Tropic Thunder on DVD be sure to watch the credits and watch Tom Cruise pull out all the stops in Tropic Thunder.

Bruce Willis in Tears of the sun and Colin Firth in The Last Legion were also great films for the night. I absolutely love munchie and movie night with friends and everyone picked out good Hollywood selections.

Tears of the Sun is just one of those films that has great action scenes in it but the movie plot just seems to tug at your heart strings. At least this Bruce Willis movie did for me.

I had a hard time watching the movie plot without being reminded of all the horrible things happening in the world today. The only problem that I had with Bruce Willis is that I’ve seen this personality before. Someone watching Tears of the Sun can compare it to the Die Hard Series, Sin City, and 16 Blocks.

The Last Legion staring Colin Firth and Aishwarya Rai is another concept of the classic tale of the sword in the stone or the enchanted sword. A great film if you like movies about legends and the Roman Empire.

I personally think the guys rented the film for Aishwarya Rai and her sword tatics but that’s another blog post.

So if your looking for three great films to check out then pick up Bruce Willis Tears of the Sun, Ben Stiller Tropic Thunder, and Colin Firth The Last Legion. I’m sure you will like each movie plot.

Cool I won an award! I am humble at your choice. I hope you like the movies as much as I did.

I agree Fitness Diva, she always looks amazing. I wonder what Aishwarya Rai workout is like to keep that amazing figure.
