The future of Mortal Kombat, Spy Hunter, and Trekken in the movies
Hollywood has this on again off again love affair with video games. Sometimes they can launch careers, other times these movies crash and burn. Quiban Moreno of Examiner.com lists twenty-eight video games that are planned to hit the movie screen. These are the Actors and Actresses that I think should take the role
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is scheduled for 2010. The film is already in pre-production. Unfortunately Robin Shou is not going to be playing Lui Kang in MK. Another rumor is that Christopher Labert is to once again play Raiden.
Who should portray the characters in MK3? It depends on what characters Sean Derek plans to have in the story. The rumor from Robin Shou website is that MK timeline will be set before the whole series began.
I have a feeling Mortal Kombat will involve some of the new characters in the game series.
Fujin – God of Wind and ally of Raiden
Jarek – Last of the Black Dragon
Shinnok – Imprisoned Elder God
Spy Hunter
Director Paul W.S. Anderson has been juggling the thought of making Spy Hunter since 2003. Writers such as Stuart Beattie were attached to the film but I honestly don’t think Spy Hunter will ever get made.
In an interview with Latino Review, Paul W.S. Anderson talks about the movie Death Race.
“I firmly believe [Death Race] is the best, most spectacular car action I’ve ever seen in a film… I don’t know if I’ll ever do another car movie after this.”
I’d actually like to see Jason Statham in the leading role. Spy Hunter isn’t just about car chases but it’s about the International Espionage Service(IES) stopping world domination.
Tekken
Tekken is currently in post production and we should see it hit the movie screen in Summer 2009. The Director of Tekken is one of my favorites because he’s part of the television show 24. Michael Colleary of Tomb Raider and Faceoff was part of the writing process.
I can’t think of a better selection of actors and actresses for this film. It will be interesting to see all of them face off in “Iron Fist” battles. Including one of my favorite actors Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. You’ll remember Cary from Heroes.
Don’t forget to check back tomorrow as I talk about more of the 28 movies that are adaptations from video games.

I’ll admit, I haven’t been too impressed by the run of video game movies that’s been coming out recently. I think it’s a tendency to underestimate the demographic and lean a bit more heavily on visual elements than necessarily works.
Is there a rest of the post? It looks a bit cut off.
