Get involved in AIDS awareness and prevention
I think the most surprising deaths from AIDS are that of celebrities. You would think that these men and women would have the best connection to medical help. This just proves that AIDS does not discriminate and affects us all.
I wanted to take this day to remember those celebrities that passed away and those who take every day to fight the global effect of AIDS.
Eazy E
Born Eric Lynn Wright, Eazy E was one of the founders of gangsta rap. He shocked the world in 1995 when Eazy E died of complications from AIDS.
Max Robinson
Max Robinson was the first African American to obtain a position as a Network Newscaster. Before his death Max Robinson anchored ABC News “World News Tonight”. Unfortunately his history of first was cut short by complications of AIDS in 1983.
Eazy E and Max Robinson are not the only two celebrities in music and television to be affected by AIDS. There are many celebrities who are involved in AIDS awareness, prevention, and research.
The project that probably has gotten the most media attention is the “Red” Campaign. Irish rocker Bono, front man for U2 has a mass amount of clothing, accessories, and gadgets that raised money to fight AIDS in Africa. Oprah Winfrey jumped on the bandwagon by promoting the AIDS project on her show.
The project expects to raise $250 billion with Starbucks donations alone this holiday season. So be sure to pick up at least one cup of coffee and tell your friends.
